Insomniac has done wonders with Spider-Man, but some fans were worried they wouldn't be able to capture the grittier, deadlier world Wolverine operates in. They can rest easy after Sony's State of Play showed that its version of Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, but what he does isn't very nice.
As noted in the trailer, there have been precious few games that truly capture the essence of the Ol' Canucklehead. Some of the best games he's appeared in have been ensemble casts, such as Midnight Suns or Marvel Rivals. It's a shame that one of Marvel's most popular characters hasn't fared better in the gaming sphere.
If I wanted to make a side bet with Logan and Ben Grimm around the poker table, I'd be all in on this one thanks to Insomniac's impeccable pedigree. Their Spider-Man games are among the best games of all time, superhero or otherwise.
The primary question that I had, and heard echoed by comic book fans, was how visceral Insomniac would be able to get. That has been answered in beautifully gory detail. Also, it felt like State of Play really needed this one. There were some interesting games, but until Wolverine's reveal the thing I was most excited about was the remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics.
I was already hyped about Wolverine, but having seen more of it? This game is going to be generational. I can't wait for 2026 to get here. It must be memed, will we get Wolverine before Grand Theft Auto 6?
