The first match of VCT Masters Toronto was Paper Rex vs Team Heretics, two teams that last faced each other in Madrid last year.
Paper Rex showed a dominant performance against Team Heretics, especially on Map One of the first two matchups.
Map One was Pearl and Paper Rex would show an aggressive push as attackers and would most often push Team Heretics, showing that they aren’t scared of the EMEA team.
Heretics would win one round early on in the match, but ultimately the team would make too many mistakes and couldn’t find their footing, which made the team suffer on both sites of the map.
Neilzinho, Team Heretics' head coach, would say mid-round that his team is asleep.
RieNs would be the team MVP for Team Heretics, but Match MVP would be PRX f0rsakeN with 18 kills, 3 deaths, and 8 assists.
Moving into map two, it would be Icebox where the team heretics would show some life.
Paper Rex would continue with an aggressive play style and would not give Team Heretics any breathing room for two rounds.
Heretics would go on a 6-5 run as they gain some life against Paper Rex.
On Round 12, it would be the final round before the switch, and it would be a battle on the B site.
Heretics win the battle but would rotate to a site, causing PRX D4v41 to follow them from behind but Heretics Boo would be the one to find him and win the engagement and gain the advantage for Team Heretics.
Going into the switch on round 13, Paper Rex would wake up on the attack and would show a dominant round that would melt Team Heretics' defence.
They would tie up the match on round 14, and would keep pushing Team Heretics, with F0rsakeN showing some emotion as he would laugh at his opponents.
It wouldn’t be until round 20 that Team heretics would try and keep themselves alive with them defending A site.
It would be another explosive battle on Icebox as Team Heretics Benjyfishy would throw out the Killjoy lockdown to try and push Paper Rex back, on the flank PRX Patmen sees Benjyfishy and his lockdown and destroys both.
In a 1v1 situation Patmen will try and go for the kill on Team Heretics Wo0t and would ultimately get i, but unknown to Patmen, Wo0t would deploy Gecko’s wingman to do a defuse and Patmen can’t close the distance after the killing Wo0t and team heretics would get the round win in a very clutch moment.
With that win, they would try and gain some momentum after the clutch round, but it would ultimately be snuffed out as Paper Rex would show dominance, cleaning house.
At the end of it, Paper Rex would go on and win the best-of-three series, winning 2-0 with Jinggg getting Map MVP with 20 kills, 13 deaths, and 16 assists.
Jinggg would also get Match MVP, with a total of 32 Kills, 19 Deaths, and 20 assists.
