Star Wars Racers Revenge is a fine but ultimately forgettable podracing game, that, until recently was going for about $20 on eBay. But now there are rumors spreading among the hacker community that the PS4 physical copy of Racers Revenge can be used to jailbreak the PlayStation 5. Now copies are going for as much as $500.

Not all the bidders are interested in hacking, some are just happy to take advantage of a sudden increased market for this forgotten game. A few people may even be trying to track it down after the announcement of Star Wars Galactic Racer at The Game Awards, and those people, I'm sure, are wondering why these Jabba The Hutt-level prices are being charged.

I probably owned this on PS2 at some point, I don't remember loving it enough to buy the PS4 reissue. Star Wars, like most sci-fi properties of the 70s and 80s, was as much a system to deliver toys into our home, as it was any kind of entertainment effort. So I looked forward to Star Wars entering the video game era. But honestly, so many of its games were utterly disappointing. In fairness, that applies to most licensed games.

Star Wars has definitely brought it in recent years, though, thanks to titles such as the Jedi Survivor games and the resurging Battlefront 2. Both Galactic Racer and Fate of the Old Republic look promising. Hopefully, they won't have any code that can be used for nefarious means.
