Every complaint about The Game Awards suddenly gained sentience in one moment. The cast of the upcoming Street Fighter movie (no joking, the entire cast) took the stage to present to plug their film , I mean present The Game Award for Best Ongoing Game.

In a poorly received joke, they announced the cast of the next Mortal Kombat was here as well, then said they really weren't because "they don't care about you, they only care about money." If this is how you show gamers you care, Street Fighter cast, please break up with us.

After all that weirdness, they finally announced the winner for Best Ongoing Game, and it was certainly an upset. No Man's Sky got the win from a field that included Fortnite, Marvel Rivals, Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail, and Helldivers 2.

Honestly, if you had asked me to pick the game that had zero chance to win this award, No Man's Sky would be the one I'd have picked. I bought this game around launch and bounced right off of it. But amazingly, 10 years later, it is still going strong.

I'm not convinced it had a better year than, well, any other game in this category but I wasn't asked. Congratulations to the team at Hello Games!
