NetEase Games is famous for giving us chances to play our favorite action heroes, including Captain America, Aragorn, and ... Steph Curry? Dunk City Dynasty is an arcade basketball title coming soon to both Android and iOS. Its pre-registration period is now open, and for registering, you'll get an exclusive avatar and help the community unlock some sweet rewards.
Limited Avatar – Unlock upon pre-order.
Novice Growth Pack – Unlocked at 500,000 pre-orders.
Star Development Pack– Unlocked at 1,000,000 pre-orders.
Superstars Gift Box – Unlocked at 2,500,000 pre-orders.
Star Player Kuminga – Unlocked at 5,000,000 pre-orders.
Anybody that had registered before Derrick Rose retired may have been promised he'd be the unlock at 5 million pre-orders. His retirement has caused a rights issue, so he'll be replaced by Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga. That's.. not quite as good. Rights issues, what you gonna do?
While we're on the subject, Dunk City Dynasty is an officially NBA licensed product, allowing it to feature players such as Luka Doncic, Steph Curry, and Paul George. It will feature "lightning-fast" games to 11 points, and modes including 3 vs 3 and 5 vs 5 play.
I love arcade sports titles, especially basketball, so I will at least give this a try. I miss games such as NBA Jam and NBA Street. NBA Playgrounds almost got there, but its card-collecting made it feel more like NBA 2K MyTeam than any of the old school arcade titles.
Since this is free-to-play, I'm sure some of those gacha mechanics will be in play here as well. That's the industry we're in. NBA licenses don't come cheap, and companies intend to make every penny of that expense back.
What do you think, does NetEase's Dunk City Dynasty sound like an arcade roundball title you'd be interested in?
