As a fan of the more magical aspects of Marvel Comics, I firmly believe there's room for a game that deals with them. But it's hard to ignore to writing in this Book of the Darkhold. Marvel Mystic Mayhem, a mobile RPG that launched June 25, has already given up the Ghost Rider.

NetEase announced the game will get no further updates after April 1, 2026, although it hasn't announced a server shutdown. NetEase has promised a full 60-day warning before any shutdown. Also, players will still get one final story chapter and six new characters: Phoenix, Iceman, Venom, Wolverine, Cyclops, and Morgan Le Fay. After all, the developer's done the work, might as well as release what they have so the game can at least go out making a few of its players happy.

For those scoring at home, this is the second time in three years a Marvel game based on its more mystical characters has failed to hit sales targets. The first was 2022's Midnight Suns, and if you haven't played that, I'm begging you to do so. I think I've done that at least once a month since 2022.

The RPG features tactical card battles, and rumors were that Take-Two Interactive brass think that's at least part of what killed it. There's also a problem that Mystic Mayhem suffered. Phoenix and Wolverine are household names, Morgan Le Fay not so much.

Someday, there will be a game featuring Marvel's mystical cast that is actually successful. I just have no idea what kind of time travel spell we may need to cast to get there.
