As is often the case with NBA 2K, most of the talk in the game's first month has been about this year's shooting mechanics. Looking at the builds in NBA 2K26's, one could forgive Victor Wembanyama for thinking he had been cloned. Shooters over 7 feet tall were a little too good in the early going, NBA 2K26's Sept. 22 patch has addressed this.

A player 7 feet tall would understandably be able to shoot over a 6-3 guard if they're in the post. He shouldn't have the same advantage from beyond the three-point line, but early on that's exactly how things worked.

Sports games try to simulate realistic conditions as best they can, but the freakish athletes of the modern day redefine reality on a daily basis. In most cases, a 7-footer with three-point range wouldn't be realistic. But in NBA 2K MyTeam, it's possible for Dirk Nowitzki, Wemby, and Kristaps Porzingis to all exist in the same timeline. Thus the players we create in The City must have the ability to be at least as good as all those athletes are, somehow without breaking the game into a million pieces. Here are the patch details:

  • Undersized defenders buffed: Shorter players now generate slightly stronger contests against taller shooters.
  • Strong contests improved: Well-positioned and well-timed contests shrink the shooter’s green window more than before.
  • No other changes: Shooting mechanics and difficulty remain the same — this patch only affects contest coverage.

Keeping the shooting mechanics and difficulty the same is a controversial move, as many players have complained that shooting percentages are unrealistically high. NBA 2K's Gameplay Director Mike Wang has explained that RNG isn't a factor the way it has been in previous years. According to Wang, a player who has mastered the mechanics of shooting can conceivably shoot 100 percent from the floor.
