NBA 2K26, like most sports titles these days, has multiple modes influenced by all different types of games including CCGs and roguelikes. Yugi Moto would probably approve of the new Gamechanger cards introduced in 2K26.
These cards change your MyTeam experience in unique ways, turning the grind either into less of a grind or a more rewarding one. Here are a few of the options.
- Activating a REP or MyTEAM Points multiplier for your next game.
- Recovering a win streak in Showdown after a loss.
- Auto-winning a Breakout game without playing it.
- Earning an extra prize or recovering a loss during a Breakout run.
- Instantly completing an Exhibition Mission.
- Auto-evolving an Evolution card.
- Reducing the difficulty or target score differential in Domination.
2K gave us a sneak peek of Gamechanger Cards with a special challenge in NBA 2K25 that unlocked five Gamechanger cards available after launch. 2K hasn't explained all the ways we'll be able to get them, but there are several visible in the Season 1 Rewards. I suspect there will be some available as rewards in the popular Breakout mode as well.
The common complaint levied at sports games is that they're just roster updates. You can't say NBA 2K26 hasn't mixed things up. In addition to Gamechanger Cards, we're seeing a redesigned The City that's easier to navigate, and perhaps the biggest change, WNBA stars have joined MyTeam. My 87 Caitlin Clark has already taken many an ankle in Showdown Mode. I can't wait to see what else 2K comes up with this year!
