NBA 2K26 players have had it with paying $70 or more for the game, and then being charged more to actually enjoy it. The casino-like atmosphere generated by MyTeam has earned widespread attention, and it's getting worse. Some players have organized a pack strike called Players Over Profits, hoping a hit to 2K's wallet will force some changes.
Their demands include:
Better mode completion rewards
More moments cards and dynamic duos
Better collector rewards
Evos for old cards and give new cards evos
Release spotlights occasionally
Better pack odds
Better Breakout and Showdown prizes
Don't nerf rewards/prizes
Bring back Sunday 5 game win streaks
Domination should not be pay to play
True pack odds shown
Bring back weekly grindable 10 pack boxes
Reduce escrow wait times
And yes, people have reached out to 2K about the strike, and as you might imagine, it's not commenting. Now is probably a good time to point out that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has bonuses for microtransactions literally built into his contract.
Take-Two reported 42 percent growth in consumer spending for its first quarter of 2025, with NBA 2K and its microtransactions being a huge driver of that revenue. The company told stock holders it expects that pattern to continue with double-digit growth in future quarters.
The publisher obviously didn't count on a grassroots movement from players tired of being gouged. Can the Players Over Profits movement coerce real change from Take-Two? I certainly hope so. Whatever happens here, you can trust App Trigger to keep you posted.
