Lil Yachty sends wrestling Internet into a frenzy with classic PSP grappler

As with any sporting event, or in WWE's case thing that simulates one, it is customary for the commentators to point out any celebrities who might be in the arena. WWE fans don't always make eye contact, because we don't want the E's PR machine thinking this celebrity should get a shot at the Heavyweight Title or something.

These appearances have various levels of impact, as sometimes it is blatantly obvious that the celebrity is just there for camera time. Remember when Raw Guest Host Jeremy Piven threatened to ban The Miz from "SummerFest?" But rapper Lil Yachty earned instant cred from the WWE Universe by showing that in between matches on the November 17 episode of Monday Night Raw, he was playing Smackdown Vs Raw 2006 on the PSP. The Smackdown vs Raw series doesn't always get the attention that say, No Mercy or WCW/NWO World Tour gets, but those SvR games had some great installments.

Among its innovations were clean and dirty moves, allowing wrestlers to earn the benefits of being face or heel. That game laid the groundwork for our current WWE titles that allow us to "accidentally" bump the ref, generate our finisher after hitting five moves of doom, and undo the turnbuckle long enough to spray poison mist.

I think I have a copy of Smackdown vs Raw 2006 around here somewhere. I might fire it up and see if I can get my kids to ignore the PS2-era graphics and challenge Dad to a match. I've got a shot to win two or three matches before they completely understand the controls.
