The Game Awards are hours away, so of course, a few things are leaking out beforehand. It's just the way these events go. Redditor Xavier EL found this potential release date for Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight by viewing its Steam page with the Spanish language option.
If Xavier's correct, the release date will be May 29, 2026, just three days after GTA 6 was supposed to come out until it got postponed - again. The date has been removed, which is a fairly strong indication that somebody screwed up somewhere. The Game Awards had already confirmed this latest Lego Batman title would make an appearance tonight, so a release date reveal makes a lot of sense.
James Gunn, guru of all things DC as the company tries to resurrect its film and video game efforts after some big misses, is excited about this title. Even having Gunn involved in promoting this speaks about how important this title could be for Warner Bros.
Though it's a Lego game, in a behind the scenes YouTube video Gunn explained that this story has real emotion and stakes. As is usually the case with comic book based projects, Gunn gets it. Here's hoping he's not alone in the building when the dust of Warner Bros. buyout settles. In a recent presentation about the deal, Netflix co-CEO Gregory Peters said the company didn't attribute any value to Warner Bros. Games when estimating the deal's value.
That's not exactly the news fans of games such as Arkham Asylum and Hogwarts Legacy wanted to hear.
