How important is Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight to Warner Bros. efforts? No less of a luminary than DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn opens this video giving us a look at the upcoming Lego offering.

Is there something innate about Batman that makes him so beloved across the entire world? A tragic story that is being transformed into something good," Gunn said. "Or is it that Batman has attracted some of the greatest artists in all mediums (comic books, gaming, film, television)that have told the story about this character, and because of that, his legend has grown and grown? I think the answer is both."

The message is an obvious one: story above all. Some of the most recent Warner Bros games have felt more like they're checking a box, existing because Warner needs them to, rather than because they should. Gotham Knights came and went without much fanfare. The only fanfare regarding Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League is how much money it lost. Multiversus? It was a good game with terrible monetization, with a final version that at long last played the way it should have all along.

Traveller's Tales Lego games have always gotten it. They give us all the references, get the essence of the characters they're depicting, and manage to be incredibly fun in the process. This installment will allow us to swap between seven different characters, including the likes of Catwoman, Robin, and yes, even Commissioner Gordon.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is coming in 2026 to PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
