Over the years, gaming has become increasingly more advanced. We have seen a major increase of evolution from the video game industry ,and companies continue to push the limits to see how far they can take gaming. Microsoft has always been a company that continues to push its limits to see how far they can take Xbox gaming, and this year has been no different.

Microsoft announced via the Xbox Wire that the Xbox App is now available on LG Smart TVs. What this means is that you can now turn your LG Smart TV into an Xbox even if you don't have an Xbox connected to that specific TV.

This feature is not new from Microsoft. In fact, you have been able to turn a lot of different devices into an Xbox as long as the Xbox App is able to be downloaded on that specific device. For example, if you have a computer that allows you to download apps, you can download the Xbox App on your computer and use your computer as an Xbox and play Xbox games on your computer via the Xbox App. Same goes for Smart TVs as well. As long as you can download the Xbox App on your TV, you can play Xbox games no problem.

How to turn your LG Smart TV (or other Smart TVs) into an Xbox

So while this news may not be overall new, it is new from an LG perspective in that more devices are becoming compatible with the Xbox App.

If you want to take advantage of this feature, it is very simple as easy to do. You first need to make sure that your TV is capable of downloading the Xbox App. If it is, you are in luck. If your TV does not have the app, then most likely the TV is too old or that TV isn't compatible yet. If you are trying to download the Xbox App on an LG Smart TV, you have to make sure you have the 2022 OLED TVs, select 2023 LG Smart TVs, and newer models, along with smart monitors running webOS24 or later versions.

The other thing you need is an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. If you don't have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, then you won't be able to take advantage of this feature.

Once you download the Xbox App via the LG Gaming Portal from either the Gaming Q-Card, LG Gaming Portal, or wherever else you download apps on your TV, it is smooth sailing from there. All you have to do then is open the app, sign into your Microsoft account, and then connect your controller to your TV either Wirelessly or Wired. From there you can start playing games from the Xbox Game Pass via the Cloud and enjoy some of your favorite games on various different TVs and devices.

With this expansion to more LG TVs by Microsoft, Microsoft continues to grow and make Xbox gaming more accessible for users than ever before even when there isn't a physical Xbox needed to play their games on. If you don't own an LG TV and want to know if your Smart TV is compatible, head over to the App Store on your TV and see if the Xbox App is available for download!
