How a Call of Duty: Warzone Apex Predator approaches a public match
Every day, new people come to Call of Duty Warzone. The free-to-play monster debuted at the right time, just as lockdowns began in 2020. And through its ups and downs, it remains a favorite.
Everyone who plays Warzone has been there: They somehow survive the sweaty drop and look up to the upper right corner and realize the kill count is high, relative to the usual for them. This will elicit different responses from different people.
Some will panic. Some will die needlessly, pushing everything like they're Jon Snow at the Battle of the Bastards. Some will hide in a corner (gotta respect the K/D). Ever wanted to ask a pro? An answer is usually difficult for them to give, as it comes as second nature, engrained in them through a LOT of drops and a LOT of deaths. The answers come out vague.
You're in luck. Fluxury knows the plays.
He has quietly built quite the resume, going back to the Blackout days. He isn't hard to find: check kill leaderboards for multiple World Series of Warzone tourneys. Odds are that your favorite streamer knows who he is; they've probably died to him once or twice. And he's willing to help you with your heater.
He casually pulled up a 52-kill solo-quads game as a reference. Cause, you know, that's normal. He always drops into chaos. Never a quiet looting spot for Flux. He came out of his drop top construction with 7 kills. Once you know it is a potential high kill game the playbook, he says, is simple.
"Don't bother with loadout money right away. Grab decent ground loot and push. It's the only way to improve. You will find yourself dying less often." He used the term "be aggressive" multiple times. Once you have cleared your drop area, the formula is the same almost every time.
There are 3 things he stressed:
1. Stay close to buy stations
"They're a core mechanic of the game. Use them. Keep UAVs in the air and realize other people will be around as well."
2. Stay mobile
"If possible, keep PRDs and balloons in your back pocket. Try your best to frequent buy stations near forms of mobility: balloons, vehicles, etc."
3. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast
" Most players push teams and die, because they don't take that extra second to plate up. Always be mindful of how you approach a fight. The angles. making sure you have a full magazine. It'll take a few extra seconds, but it's less time than going to the gulag."
Once gulag closes, and the end game is coming, it's time to slow down and play positioning. "The kills will come." Power positions are key. In short, take the high ground, Obi-Wan. When all is said and done, if you have a thought for your actions and don't panic, the win totals and K/D will increase.
Best of luck in Urzikstan.
