Hollow Knight: Silksong is upon us, and storefronts are buckling under the weight of one of 2025's biggest releases. Steam and the Nintendo eShop both displayed error messages as the much- anticipated sequel went live for download.
Many gamers are taking the wait in stride, sharing memes about the game's "first boss," meaning the ability to download the game at all. Folks have even started naming Steam's error blobs.
In the six years since the original Hollow Knight surprised us, the anticipation for a sequel has reached giant proportions. There are already nearly 2,000 positive reviews on Steam, which obviously should not be taken too seriously since the game is hours old.
Team Cherry opted not to let players preload the game, a step highly sought after games often take to avoid just this kind of scenario. They also didn't provide any review codes, and I say this as an editor of a video game site, they honestly didn't need to. Would anything I or any game journo said stop a legion of devoted fans from downloading this game? There's no way in the Abyss.
Once Silksong's Sept. 4 release date was revealed, many developers opted to move the dates for their own games to let the big indie dog eat well. Game of the Year contender? Oh yeah.
Whenever you're able to download it on the platform of your choice, Hollow Knight: Silksong is available on Nintendo Switch 2,Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, iOS and PC.
