Gore Games for the Gore God

This is the season for blood, guts, and gore, and I must say I’ve been feeling a need for violence. Where better to experience some bloody hyper violence than the safety of your own home? Here are some video games on Steam with enough blood and violence to surely please the gore gods.

Silent Hill f

The fastest selling Silent Hill Game in history does not mess around. While some have said the combat and story are slower than other Silent Hill games, I’ve found Silent Hill f is just as atmospheric, disturbing and violent as the best of the survival horror series would have you hoping for. Hinako has the pipe swing of a young woman on a fear-filled mission and as long as you aim true, she’ll get you to the level of carnage you’re looking for while running from wonderfully thoughtful and grotesque monsters. Silent Hill f is available for $69.99.

The Forest & The Son of the Forest

I think the gore god would approve of crafting with the corpse’s of the men you’ve killed. I think it would like that quite a lot. In the original The Forest you play as a father looking for his son after a plane crash, where you must fight and kill cannibals and monsters on a remote island while you survive. The sequel, The Son of the Forest, however has you playing as someone sent to find a lost billionaire, and amps up every aspect of what made the original great. The open-world survival horror elements have all been made bigger than ever, making each bloody hack and slash something to remember. The first is $19.99 and the sequel is $29.99.

DOOM: The Dark Ages

In a similar vein to The Forest and The Son of the Forest, If you want violence and gore, it’s hard to do better than DOOM. In DOOM: The Dark Ages, you’ll find an over-the-top visual experience designed to let you choose exactly when and how you’ll rend monster flesh from bone. You play as the super weapon of gods, the Slayer of Legend, helping turn the tides of a never-before-seen war in the newest installment to this bloody boomer shooter franchise. DOOM: The Dark Ages is available for $69.99.

Wolfenstein: The New Order & Wolfenstein ll: The New Colossus

I’ve noticed that within violent and gore-y games, there is an important and beloved tradition of shooting Nazi’s in the face, and my friends, there are many ways to skin a cat and many fun ways to enact virtual violence upon fascist regimes. One of the more beloved ways has been the Wolfenstein action-adventure franchise, where you play through intense and immersive first-person combat to take down the advancing Nazi regime in an alternative history to our own. While it can be a little immersion-breaking for me to suddenly be facing zombies and super-soldiers, I can still appreciate Wolfenstein: The New Order for presenting the hyper-violence for what it is, especially at $19.99. Similarly, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus offers a bit more commentary that allows me to, personally, get far more immersed in the violence of it all for $39.99. #NoMoreNazis indeed.

Saya No Uta / The Song of Saya

What if everything you saw was meat? Have you considered this kind of gore? Not the kind that you pull from others, dear reader, but the kind that rests inside your skull? The kind that could twist your perception so easily with just a simple “poke” at your little gray cells? This visual-novel is infamous for its artistic interpretation of and thematic wrestlings with gore, violence, all kinds of abuse and psychological horror. This visual novel was written by the beloved writer of Puella Madoka Magica, Ken Orobuchi, also known by fans as “the Orobutcher” for his tragic, cruel but well-written stories. If you’re open to some deeply disturbing but rewarding reading, Saya No Uta / The Song of Saya is avaliable for $15.99. It’s worth noting the version on Steam has some of the disturbing content removed, so if you’re interested in that extra content it is avaliable separately.
