Alt Shift, the studio that brought us Crying Suns, is taking us into the action and intrigue of one of sci-fi's most storied franchises with Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes. It's a tactical roguelike in which the player's choices guide humanity towards survival. Of course, the wrong choices will doom humans forever, so absolutely no pressure.
In Scattered Hopes, you command a fleet of ships escaping the Twelve Colonies. You'll need to reach the Battlestar Galactica to survive, but the road won't be easy. Cylon ships, political battles, and constant danger are around every corner. And in true BSG fashion, some of those frakkin' skinjobs are hiding amongst your population, ready to spring up and destroy everything.
When Cylon ships show up, you won't be able to defeat the overwhelming odds. Instead, your squad must survive until you're able to jump through space. The battles will occur in real time, and if you can avoid getting the central ship blown out of the sky you'll be able to jump somewhere else in the galaxy. Even that choice is a tactical decision with different destinations offering different rewards.
Each run unlocks new squadrons, weapons, and meta upgrades to, in theory, make the next run a little easier. Publisher DotEmu has been an excellent steward of some of the best nerdy properties out there. They've brought us Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, a fighter that stands right alongside the best in the storied TMNT lineage. Recent banger Metal Slug Tactics reimagines the classic shooter as a strategy games.
Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes so far looks like another game that will do perfect justice to a beloved license. It's slated to hit PC in 2026.
