Gears of War: Reloaded will make franchise history

Microsoft and Sony have gone toe to toe over the years with each of them trying to make a point that they are the supreme gaming console. One of the biggest differences that sets these two companies apart is exclusive video game franchises.

When it comes to Microsoft and Xbox, one of the biggest video game franchises that they own is Gears of War. Gears of War has been an Xbox staple over the last 20 years, spawning six main Gears of War titles and a couple of Spin-Offs as well. For 20 years Gears of War has called Xbox their home, but are things starting to change?

Wait, Gears of War: Reloaded is coming to PlayStation 5?!

Microsoft announced that Gears of War: Reloaded will be released later this Summer on August 26, 2025. Gears of War: Reloaded will be the next video game in the Gears of War franchise, but this game isn't a brand-new installment. In fact, Gears of War: Reloaded will be a complete and revamped remake of the original Gears of War video game.

The very first Gears of War was released back in November of 2006. To celebrate the upcoming 20th year anniversary of the franchise next year, Microsoft has decided to give the game that started it all a makeover so that gamers can play the original game on updated consoles with updated features.

Perhaps the biggest part of Microsoft's announcement regarding Gears of War: Reloaded is that the game will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5. Yes, you read that right. You are not dreaming. Gears of War: Reloaded will be playable on PlayStation 5.

This marks a significant moment in the Gears of War franchise. For the past 20 years, the franchise that everyone has grown to love has only been made available on Xbox, but now the very first game will be playable on PlayStation as well.

Gears of War: Reloaded Main Upgrades

While Gears of War: Reloaded will be a remake, the technology and visuals today will bring the game to life more than it ever has before.

The game will be playable in 4K resolution, 60 Frames Per Second in the Campaign, 120 Frames Per Second in Multiplayer, and so many improved textures and enhanced visuals.

Gears of War: Reloaded will also come with Cross-Play, all of your progress that you have earned thanks to Cross-Progression, and you will have endless amounts of content thanks to receiving all of the Downloaded Content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.

Even though Gears of War: Reloaded will be playable on PlayStation 5, that is the only Gears of War game you can play on PlayStation 5 at the moment. So if you own a PlayStation and never have gotten the chance to dive into the Gears of War franchise and you end up loving the remake, you will have to continue your journey on Xbox consoles to see how the story ends.

Regardless, Gears of War is one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. The thought of playing that game on a PlayStation console does seem a bit weird, but it is going to allow a whole community of different gamers get to enjoy a fantastic franchise that they may have never gotten the chance to try before.
