G2 Esports continue their journey of the golden era, but Dragon Ranger Gaming (DRG) blocks their path to the playoffs.
These teams have never faced each other, and they welcome the challenge of facing new opponents.
Heading into map one, DRG would get to pick the first map of the series, which would be Lotus.
Lotus wouldn’t be DRG’s best map with an even 7-7 record, but G2 took this as a challenge, as they had Lotus been one of their best maps with a 13-5 record and a 72 per cent win rate.
G2 would enter the map one on the attacking side, but DRG would start on the defence, which caused trouble for G2 early on in the first half.
DRG would take an early lead of 6-2 by letting G2 plant and then dispatching each member of the guard, then defusing the spike.
G2 would grab the final four rounds of the first half to tie the match up at 6 rounds on both sides.
DRG’s Akeman would be ahead of everyone in the first half with 17 kills and 7 deaths.
G2 Esports took the tie in the first half personally and would assert their dominance in the second half.
G2 would guard the site well, not letting DRG get past and forcing them to fight.
The guard would stand strong, and G2 took map one with Leaf taking map MVP with 23 kills, 12 deaths and 6 assists.
Dragon Ranger Gaming needed to win map two if they wanted to stay alive, as one more loss would eliminate them from VCT Champions Paris.
They wouldn’t get a saving grace in map two as G2 Esports chose Abyss, a map that is an even record for DRG, but for G2, they had an 80 per cent win rate on the map with a record of 4-1.
Map two would be a mirror of map two, this time G2 being on defence and DRG on offence.
The first half would be like map one, where both teams would even up the match at the end of the half with a 6-6 score.
Although the leader of the half would be G2’s Trent with 12 kills, 2 deaths and 4 assists.
The second half would be the same, as it was another 7-1 lead for G2, securing the win with another 13-7 score and sweeping Dragon Ranger Gaming from competition.
G2 Esports would move on to the decider match against T1.
Now the stage is set: 8 teams, four eliminations, and four playoff spots left.
