On June 29, 2025, Winthrop University made an announcement that took the Valorant collegiate scene by storm, and it was the announcement that former VCT Pacific pro Player, Peter “Governor” No, would be joining the South Carolina team's collegiate Valorant squad.
Governor was best known for his time with Talon Esports in 2023 up until the end of VCT Pacific Kickoff this past January, where they lost to Gen.G and failed to qualify for VCT Masters Bangkok.
After failing to qualify, Talon Esports would bid farewell to Governor and his teammate, Joseph “Ban” Seungmin Oh, on February 21, during the break between VCT Master Bangkok and VCT Pacific Stage 1.
A few weeks after leaving Talon, Governor would be picked up by the Norwegian team APEKS on March 19 and would compete in the EMEA region for VCT EMEA Stage 1.
During his run in VCT EMEA Stage 1 with APEKS, the team would suffer as they wouldn’t earn a single win and would fail to qualify for the playoffs.
Later on, APEKS would announce on April 29 that Governor would be going on hiatus from competing due to injury, and he would become an inactive member of the roster.
In a statement released by Governor immediately after the announcement, he said he’d been dealing with hand numbness & pain.
“It’s been affecting me both physically and mentally. I’ve been seeing professional help and doing my best to play through it, but at this point it’ll be best for everyone if I just take a proper break,” he said.
“I really regret trying to play through it and not doing this sooner, but I really thought it’d get better and that's why I kept pushing,” he said.
Peter “Governor” No would be out of action for 2 months before Winthrop University announced that the Korean-American would join their collegiate team, meaning he would make a return to North America.
This would also be a return to tier two competition for Governor, as his last time competing in tier two and North America was on Sept. 23, 2023, with Turtle Troop.
He would have his debut match with the team on July 8, against Prosperity Esports on
Challengers 2025: North America ACENSION Stage 3.
During his debut match with the university, he would have a great performance as he would get a total of 32 kills, 22 deaths,13 assists and for the first time since February 2, Governor would be able to get a win.
After a gruelling start to his 2025 pro journey, he finally gets a win and will look to help Winthrop start a win streak as they go on to face Cubert Academy today.
