Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves raised some eyebrows with its reveal that superstar soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo will be a playable character at launch. Well, the weirdness continues, as DJ Salvatore Ganaci will also be throwing hands in SNK's latest fighter. Why the hell is he here? Here's what his character bio has to say:
Salvatore is a justice-dealing artist who has arrived in South Town looking for inspiration to help finish his latest (and hopefully greatest) anime music video. When his good friend Duck King tells him about the KOF tournament on the horizon, Salvatore decides it might just give him the spark he needs. Combining DJ'ing and martial arts, Salvatore is nothing if not versatile- mixing music, muscles, and mayhem leaving even the most formidable opponents stunned and disoriented by his extraordinary abilities.
Sean Chiplock is tasked with bringing Ganacci to life here. You've heard his voice in anime such as Hunter X Hunter and One Punch Man. His gaming resume includes Killer Instinct, Persona 5, and Octopath Traveler.
Look, fighting games have always had weird characters. Tekken includes pandas and robots, for example. But in our younger days, those characters were free to unlock. Players are concerned that Fatal Fury series mainstays who aren't in the game at launch will appear via paid DLC. At launch, we'll have a professional soccer player and a world-famous DJ. It's safe to say these wouldn't have been the characters fans demanded at launch.
Heck, these characters may end up being fun to play. I'll admit that I have a soft spot for sports-themed characters in fighters. I will certainly try Ronaldo - oh, who am I kidding? I'll main the soccer guy even if he turns out to be terrible. But right now, this game is looking more like Multiversus than Fatal Fury, and we all know how that game turned out.
