I played the crap out of Fallout 4, as I have every Fallout-related thing I ever touched before it. But yes, in comparison to Fallout 3 or New Vegas it's - awright. Its 10th Anniversary Edition (Jesus, that was 10 years ago!) will do little to endear it to its critics, or its fans, for that matter.
The latest update is eating people's saves, making it unplayable because "DLC needs to be installed" even though said DLC has been installed, and a companion's carry load of other bugs and glitches. Players on Steam are understandably letting Bethesda have it with both shotgun barrels.
"Thank you Bethesda Game Studios, for your graciously offering me the chance to pay $40 for a game I've owned since 2015.," one review reads.
This is my favorite game of all time, but the incompetence with which this series is being managed frankly boggles the mind."
Anyways, be sure to purchase more V-bucks for Fallout 76! "
There's also a whole lot of confusion as to what has been updated and which version of the game contains what. The 10th Anniversary update itself is free to Fallout 4 owners.
If you would like to buy the game, there is a base version, a Game of the Year Edition, and a 10th Anniversary Edition. There's also a Fallout 4 Creations Bundle, which includes the 150 mods in the Anniversary Edition for $19.99. As many Steam users have already pointed out, many of the mods in that bundle are already avaiable online for free.
I'd say if you haven't played Fallout 3 or New Vegas, those are also great options.
