There are so many reasons we love the Fallout series. The world-building is incredible, that's how it was able to carry a wildly successful TV show that Amazon quickly ordered multiple seasons of. One Redditor discovered just how deep and detailed the Capital Wasteland is, finding a random encounter they had never seen, even after 17 years.
After purifying the water (sorry for the nearly two-decade-old spoiler if you haven't played it), the player encountered a Brotherhood of Steel Initiate torching some Mirelurks. It turns out they can't survive in fresh water and are going crazy. One note, you apparently do have to have the Broken Steel add-on for this to happen.
That's a cool detail, although not so much for the Mirelurks. In Fallout, every action has some sort of reaction, whether you intended it to or not. This is a neat one with some scary actual scientific basis. Animals are often evolving to combat the numerous effects of man's presence in the environment. For example, there are wolves near Chernobyl that have evolved a resistance to cancer due to all the radiation they've been exposed to.
Despite all the positive news in Fallout land, we still have no word on any new games in the mainline Fallout series. There are reports that Microsoft is concerned about that, especially as the Amazon Prime series brings millions of new fans into the fold. But stories like this are a reminder that the Fallout games we currently have still offer a whole lot of content to offer.
