El Grande Americano is a better WWE 2K25 add than any celebrity "wrestler"

As is often the case with WWE, the El Grande Americano addition to WWE 2K25 got us to the right place even if we took the long road to get there. The kinda sorta luchador is now available if you own the New Wave DLC Pack.

We were supposed to get a celebrity guest that has been reported as Travis Scott, who was at one point a huge part of WWE programming. But it didn't work out, and WWE doesn't appear to be in a hurry to work with Scott again anytime soon.

Honestly, El Grande Americano was always a better pick. WWE is way more committed to this storyline than anything that was happening with Scott, or for that matter John Cena's already undone heel turn.

I'll admit I have a soft spot for the "wrestler obviously pretends to be someone else while wearing a mask" gimmick. I have fond childhood memories of Dusty Rhodes as the Midnight Rider, or Brian Pillman as The Yellow Dog.

WWE's doing a fun wrinkle on the storyline. In most cases, wrestlers wear a mask because they've been suspended or lost a loser-leaves-town match. Chad Gable just underwent an identity crisis not being able to pin luchadors, so he decided to become one. It makes sense in wrestling world.

I had a chance to use El Grande Americano, and the character is a lot of fun. He's just as ridiculous as the real thing, but like Chad Gable he's actually a very dangerous competitor. He's got a couple of the best moves in the game with the belly-to-belly suplex and the flying headscissors takedown as a running attack.

For finishers, he has both the ankle lock and the headbutt with a loaded mask that he's been using. I would have hated to wait until WWE 2K26 to get this, because who knows if the storyline will still be going on that point.
