After some serious disappointments on the gaming front, Warner Bros. is focusing on a few core brands, including DC Comics. It seems they're also going to lean into gacha mechanics, keeping game development costs down while opening up huge streams of revenue. DC Worlds Collide is Warner's latest effort, a mobile RPG with 12 game modes to keep players engaged.

There's PvP and PvE, exploration, and Digital Universe, which combines puzzles and roguelite mechanics. Players certainly shouldn't lack for things to do in this title. Of course, these games will offer huge cross-promotional opportunities for DC Universe entertainment. The DCU's latest version of Superman will arrive in Worlds Collide on July 9 in anticipation of his July 11 flick, and later this summer, the film versions of Krypto, Mr. Terrific, and Guy Gardner will join the party as well.

The game's storyline pulls heavily from the New 52 stories Forever Evil and Trinity War. The latter is inspired by Greek mythology as Pandora's Box is unleashed on the DC Universe, corrupting Superman and causing chaos. Many heroes are killed for a little while after the storyline (you know comic books), and Forever Evil finds the Crime Syndicate trying to fill the power vacuum.

I wouldn't be a true fanboy without mentioning that Marvel Mystic Mayhem just launched. As is often the case with these two comic book companies, they're dropping projects within days of each other battling for the same fanbase. When these entertainment titans square off, fans will hopefully be the winners.

DC Worlds Collide is available on iOS and Android. Who's ready to save the multiverse?
