The undead and video games have a long, symbiotic relationship. Like zombies, great games are notoriously bad at staying dead. At the PC Gaming Show Tokyo, Nightdive Studios announced classic shooter Blood is returning.

The 1997 offering tells the story of Caleb, an undead gunslinger at war with the dark god Tchernobog. He was once a commander in the god's army, but you know how those annoying pacts with dark elder beings work out.

“Since we released Blood: Fresh Supply six years ago, the demand from fans to have this iconic game on consoles has been immense,” Larry Kuperman, VP of Business Development at Nightdive Studios, said. “With our partners at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Nightdive, and Atari, we can now deliver on those demands and finally bring Blood to modern consoles. We didn’t stop there, though. Refreshed Supply is the definitive edition of Blood, with additional improvements made and exciting new content from Nightdive.”

It's a little sad to hear them talking about the work of Monolith Studios, which was shuttered in Warner Bros. last round of layoffs. But I am glad that a whole new generation of players will get to experience this game. Monolith's work absolutely deserves to be remembered.

Blood will release Dec. 4 on Windows PC, PlayStations 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch for $29.99. A Switch 2 version is coming later.
