The Expanse, based on novels by James S.A. Corey, rapidly became a beloved TV show on the Syfy Network. After Syfy cancelled it, Amazon swooped in and delivered three more seasons. A show with this kind of fan following cried out for a video game adaptation, and here we are. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn comes to us from Owlcat Games, the developer that delivered 2023's incredible Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader.

In the world set forth by The Expanse, humankind has colonized the solar system. There are power struggles throughout these colonies' infrastructure, with people trying to do their jobs getting caught in the middle. This universe offers plenty of disturbing choices for an RPG to challenge players with.

“Every place in The Expanse tells a story,” Alexander Mishulin, Creative Director at Owlcat Games, said. “When we recreate locations like Ganymede or Ceres, it’s not just about making them look authentic — it’s about capturing the struggles and hopes of the people who live there. That sense of survival and consequence is what we want players to feel as they move through the game.”

Here's how Owlcat Games plans to do just that:

Key features of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn:

  • Create Your Own Captain: Play as an Earther, Martian, or Belter and take command of the system’s most advanced ship. Shape your journey through identity, leadership, and the pressure of survival.

  • Lead a Crew: Your companions are more than squadmates — they have pasts, motives, and a voice in your story. Your leadership decisions will determine how squadmate loyalty shifts under pressure.

  • Tactical Third-Person Combat: Implement real-time strategic cover mechanics using various abilities and squad coordination. Bring two companions into combat while others support from behind the scenes.

  • Explore a Divided Solar System: Travel across iconic locations from the TV show and books, like Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, and Luna. While traversing the various environments, players must uncover secrets and influence outcomes through their skills and decisions.

  • A Story-Driven RPG True to The ExpanseImmerse yourself in a narrative grounded in tension, consequence, and the complexity of humanity’s future among the stars.

It's giving Mass Effect vibes, and that is definitely not a bad thing. There's no release date yet, but it's coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S when it does drop.
