When I see MicroProse's logo on a game, it warms the cockles of my nerdy heart. They're both remaking some of their classic games and creating what will hopefully be some new legendary franchises. First up, Task Force Admiral - Vol. 1: American Carrier Battles, now available in Steam Early Access.
Picture it, the Pacific Ocean, 1942. You'll manage reconnaissance and strike coordination, navigate the fog of war, and engage in real-time combat. Task Force Admiral features 3D battles with authentic ships, planes, as well as realistic ballistics and damage modeling. I can hear Faith Hill playing in the background.
Early Access begins with two of the most iconic carrier battles of the Pacific War, fully playable in both historical and variant forms:
Available on Release
- Coral Sea Scenario & Variant (May 8, 1942)
- Midway Scenario & Variant (June 4, 1942)
- Coral Sea & Midway Battle Generator Sets
- Playable fighter aircraft
- Savegame support
- TacView-style battle replay system
You can play these battles the way they happened or explore some alternate history scenarios. Harry Turtledove would be proud.
Other historical additions will include:
- New Coral Sea & Midway scenario variants
- Additional aircraft carriers: USS Saratoga, IJN Ryūjō, and IJN Jun’yō
- Complete Japanese Order of Battle for Midway
- 1940 “Early War” Midway variant
On this one, Microprose is working with Drydock Studios. Founded in 2019, they remember the 90s being the golden age of command and combat simulations, and they want to bring it back. They sound like my kind of people, and this sounds like my kind of game.
