It wasn't a clean sweep, but Clair Obscur Expedition 33 did OK at The Game Awards, including the biggest win of them all. The indie title won the most awards in the show's history with nine, surpassing the previous record set by The Last of Us Part II. That blockbuster picked up seven wins back in 2017
Clair Obscur notched wins for Best Narrative, Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, Best Performance (for actress Jennifer English), and Best RPG in addition to GOTY.
As a thank you to the players that made this historic year possible, Sandfall Interactive released a new content update that is completely free. Players will have a new area to explore called Verso's Drafts. It will offer new enemies, more story, and some new outfits. New bosses also enter the game's Endless Tower. This update is currently live on all the game's platforms.
Sandfall Interactive is a studio founded by a few former Ubisoft employees, and that must sting the executive suite in Montreal. It's hard to imagine a pubisher that could use the critical acclaim, financial windfall, and general goodwill generated by a Game of the Year more than embattled Ubisoft.
"Thank you so much, you changed our lives," Clair Obscur Guillaime Broche said in his acceptance speech. "You changed the studio's life and it's really wonderful. "
