So there's a new hero shooter.. wait, come back! Seriously, I understand your skepticism. But I'm hearing nothing but good things about Fragpunk, a new game from NetEase. Its innovation to help it stand out in an admittedly crowded genre is the "shard card" system.
Before a round starts, each team gets a chance to spend their shards on three separate cards that will affect gameplay. They include fairly normal things such as increased speed, all the way up to a card that allows players to crouch for 10 seconds to lay an egg. You can then eat this egg to gain health. I probably don't need to tell you this is a game that doesn't take itself too seriously.
The system, with 169 cards at launch, ensures no two matches of Fragpunk play out exactly the same way. It was released March 6 on PC, but planned console versions were delayed to a nebulous "later date" to work out some more kinks. NetEase Games has announced that later date is April 29.
Because console players were so patient, we'll get some special gifts to get us up to speed. They include all the limited time rewards released since the game's PC launch and some in-game resources. Those include:
3.410 Glunite Coins
14 Basic Sticker Packs
6 Curiosity Pop Cans
100 Skin Keys
10 Fireworks
10 Firecrackers
Console versions of Fragpunk will feature both crossplay and cross-progression with the PC version of the game. If you've already played on PC but plan to play on console as well, you'll need to link your accounts and then play on the new console account to be eligible for the console launch gifts.
Some players purchased a special Pioneer Bundle on console, which got refunded when it didn't launch on time. Those players will get a special bonus pack that includes 18,888 coins and 300 Fragpunk coins.
