The Game Awards are almost upon us, and host Geoff Keighley has confirmed on his X account that Lara Croft will be on hand in some form. Crystal Dynamics announced another Tomb Raider was on the way in 2022, but we've heard precious little since then.
Lara Croft returns at #TheGameAwards!

As just revealed in our The Game Awards Vote in Fortnite map portal, tune in Thursday night for a look at the future of one of gaming's most iconic franchises @tombraider

The last mainline entry in the venerable franchise was 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It's been a long time, Lara. There was a mobile roguelike, Tomb Raider Reloaded, in 2023, but reviews were not kind. Tomb Raider is very much influenced by the adventures of Indiana Jones, and now if you want to play a Lara Croft-style game, your best option is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Tomb Raider is suddenly a pillar of Amazon's content strategy. It will publish the next game in the series, and has purchased both the movie and TV rights to the character. Filming on the TV series is supposed to start in 2026, with Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner ready to travel the globe in search of treasure and adventure.
According to Crystal Dynamics, the next game will move from the Foundation Engine to Unreal Engine 5. Having Amazon throw its considerable wealth behind all things Tomb Raider sounds like a recipe for success, but I thought that same thing about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
App Trigger will be all over all the announcements happening at The Game Awards December 11, so please stop by and check us out!
