Best Nintendo Switch Games #12- I Am Setsuna
Developer: Tokyo RPG Factory
Synopsis: Setsuna, a young maiden chosen by fate, must journey to the Last Lands to become a sacrifice in order to appease the monsters that plague the world. She is accompanied by a mysterious wanderer named Endir and an entourage of companions who will assist her along the way through the snow-covered world. I Am Setsuna’s ATB battle system, story, and set-up pay homage throughout to Chrono Trigger.
Why it’s one of the best Nintendo Switch games: Nostalgia is a hell of a thing, and in many cases, obsession with remaking the past can drag a title down. But I Am Setsuna is nostalgia done right, combining a gorgeous piano soundtrack, an enjoyable battle system, and just enough gentle references to satisfy those thirsty to relive their childhoods while still experiencing a new, traditional RPG adventure. Don’t worry if you haven’t played Chrono Trigger, though. I Am Setsuna is a testament to why the essentials of Japanese RPGs have remained stalwart over the years through countless adventures. It’s a wonderful start to what I’m sure will prove an enjoyable Switch RPG collection.
