Best Nintendo Switch Games #15 – Severed

Developer: DrinkBox Studios

Synopsis: A young woman with a severed arm returns home to find everything destroyed, her parents and younger brother missing, and a mysterious, Death-like creature offering her a strange, living sword. With it, she sets out to bring her family back, exploring the wilderness outside her home while slashing her way through a host of dangerous, bizarre, and mythical creatures.

Why it’s one of the best Nintendo Switch games: So very few games put the touchscreen to actual, good use, that it’s refreshing to find one that finally nails it. Severed’s many accolades for its mobile appearances were well-deserved, as every facet of this short, gruesome title is stylistic and polished. From the artstyle to the music to the story to the enemy designs, you’ll find yourself immersed in a strange, beautiful world right out of South American mythology. The gameplay is the best aspect by far, though, as it keeps the touchscreen slashing varied and active as you progress. The Switch’s large screen is particularly adept for this playstyle.
