Best Nintendo Switch Games #17 – Thumper

Developer: drool Games

Synopsis: Thumper is a rhythm game where you play as a beetle running along a track through…space, or something. As you glide along the track, you’ll need to time your button presses to hit notes, brace for obstacles, slide along corners, and fight opponents to the beat of the music and sound, resulting in pounding, powerful rhythms and culminating in boss take-downs.

Why it’s one of the best Nintendo Switch games: Thumper did not lose much by leaving VR and gained plenty by allowing for the portability of the Nintendo Switch. Unlike many other rhythm games, Thumper does not hold your hand with obvious cues but teaches you what to expect exactly once, then sends you down the track to your rhythmic doom–step it up, or fail. But this challenge only makes the game more appealing; the visual and audio reactions to pulling off the game’s most powerful rhythms are immensely satisfying. You’ll get lost immediately in the entrancing, rhythmic void of Thumper.
