Best Nintendo Switch Games #49 – Blaster Master Zero

Developer: Inti Creates

Synopsis: Blaster Master Zero is a remake of the 1988 title Blaster Master for the NES, and mixes 2D platforming while in the tank SOPHIA III with top-down exploration as Jason, her driver. New areas, bosses, and sub-weapons will greet veteran players alongside tighter graphics, but control of SOPHIA III will feel as tight and bouncy as ever as you blast your enemies out of your way, look for dungeon entrances, and take down the Plutonium Boss.

Why it’s one of the best Nintendo Switch games: Thank you, Inti Creates, for going above and beyond a basic “Virtual Console” version of Blaster Master! With new bosses and areas added, Blaster Master Zero feels fresh again–and it was a tight game to begin with! The mixture of both top-down gameplay and 2D platforming was new for its time and is still rarely, if ever present in games today. Blaster Master Zero is the kind of blast from the past that manages to succeed even today.
