Best Nintendo Switch Games #41 – Shantae: Half-Genie Hero

Synopsis: Shantae’s return as the titular half-genie hero and guardian of Scuttle Town wouldn’t make sense without the simultaneously return of Risky Boots, an evil pirate and Shantae’s nemesis, who is threatening the town and the entire genie realm with a mysterious device. Shantae must collect all the pieces necessary to assemble a protective machine for Scuttle Town while helping those she encounters along the way. Using her hair as her primary attack, Shantae will also learn dances throughout the game that will grant her new abilities.

Why it’s one of the best Nintendo Switch games: There’s a darn good reason why Shantae games keep getting made and released for every new console that launches. Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is hopefully not the only Shantae game we’ll see on the Switch, as the series certainly belongs there despite Nintendo’s usual saturation of platformers. Though you may be missing some story context from the previous game if you haven’t played it, Half-Genie Hero combines the fun platforming we’ve come to expect from Shantae with a memorable story and a quirky cast of characters you’ll want to play the sequels to see again.
