Hark! Do I hear All Along the Watchtower playing in the background? Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is a strategic game that will challenge you to get a ragtag crew of humans to safety with those diabolical Cylons on your tail. Publisher Dotemu released a new gameplay video today showing just how hard your job will be.
As in the hit SyFy TV show, you will have precious few resources and lots of people doubting your decisions. And, of course, there's the risk that some Cylons have infiltrated your crew in the guise of humans.
With humanity's fate in the balance, time is of the essence. Each action costs time, and you'll have constant fires (real and metaphorical) to put out. Your officers will help hold the ship and its crew together as best they can, but they're human too. At least some of them are. You'll need to monitor their health and morale to keep them and your fleet functioning at full capacity you can reunite with humanity's last best hope, the Battlestar Galactica.
Just like President Laura Roslin, you will have to balance the needs and wants of various political factions. They can make your job significantly easier or harder depending on how happy they are with you.
The events triggered by these conflicts can be resolved by spending resources or sending heroes to deal with them. Of course, the heroes are putting themselves in harm's way to do so. As things advance, you'll learn that some of the accidents onboard aren't accidents at all. Who's sabotaging humanity's future? As the captain, it's up to you to find out. Nobody said leading a fleet would be easy.
You'll have to make some tough calls, and the toughest may alienate the very heroes you rely on. It's impossible to keep everybody happy, but your primary job is to keep them alive. Sometimes you can take a faction member to the bar to help repair the relationship.
There are positive events too, and succeeding them can unlock resources, new ships, and other opportunities to keep you alive long enough to rendezvous with the Galactica.
When Cylon fleets catch up, you're outnumbered and have no hope of winning. You need to last for two minutes to build enough energy to jump away.
It's early yet, but everything we've heard so far seems to capture the vibe of one of the best sci-fi shows in recent memory. Look for Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes in early 2026.
