Sadly, most people learned everything they know about Aquaman from the 70s era toon Superfriends. So most folks have decided that Aquaman is lame because of a show most under the age of 40 have never even seen. Honestly, if Superfriends was your only frame of reference you might think Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are lame too. I say this as a kid who woke up at whatever time on Saturday morning they aired this cartoon for its full run.

But I'm not here to litigate Aquaman's cool factor. I'm here to cover the remaining days until MultiVersus May 30 shutdown. Its fifth and final season begins today, with its final two fighters being the aforementioned Aquaman and Lola Bunny. The entire Season 5 premium battle pass is free, which is the absolute right decision here.

Some have questioned the character choices for this game, and I won't lie. I'm upset we won't ever get a Mortal Kombat character, or my favorite superhero Green Lantern. But after having played Aquaman for a couple of hours, I can tell you he is pure fun in the best way possible.

He's a tank who, as you might imagine, gets quite a bit of help from his undersea pals. Sharks, dolphins, and puffer fish are among the aquatic brethen he brings to the table.

In keeping with colorful, cartoony aesthetic of MultiVersus, this is a campier depiction of the King of the Seas. One of his aerial attacks actually summons flying fish to hold him aloft. This fighter has always been a study in contrast, pitting characters as evil as the murderous 80s slasher Jason Voorhees against the likes of Adventure Time's Finn and Jake.

Smash Bros. has a wide range of characters for sure, but no 80s movie slashers or Rick Sanchez, who has more than a little bit of cold-blooded murderer in him as well. I'm sad not just because we're losing a really good fighting game, but because I can't imagine I'll ever have another opportunity to pit LeBron James against Black Adam.

It's free to try MultiVersus out, although I understand if you have zero interest in dipping into a game with only a couple of more months of updates. But if you love Aquaman, please get in here for a few weeks and have some fun with us.
