Amazon Prime didn't have to look too far to find Kratos in its upcoming God of War live action show. Ryan Hurst will tackle the coveted role as The Ghost of Sparta. His credits include Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead, and oh yeah, Thor in God of War: Ragnarok.

Variety reported the long awaited casting in this series that has been gestating for a while now. It was first announced in 2022, and has already had two showrunners. The good news? The new showrunner is Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica fame.

A lot has happened to Kratos over the 20 years of this series ( I can't believe it either) but the Amazon show will join his timeline in what fans jokingly call the "Dad of Boy" era. Kratos is trying to put his violent past behind him, which is basically impossible for a God of War to do. He's raising his 10-year-old son, Atreus amid all the chaotic battles between deities. As Amazon puts it:

“Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”

Hurst brings some serious acting experience on huge hit shows, including a critically acclaimed stint as Opie on Sons of Anarchy. Also, he's already an expert on the franchise through his role as Thor in Ragnarok. While the TV series got off to a shaky start, it appears to be headed in the right direction now.
