A year after it launched to considerable success, Activision has pulled Call of Duty Warzone Mobile from stores. It generated $1.4 million in its first four days on the market, but went downhill quickly from there.

"We deeply appreciate your dedication and passion for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. Going forward, we will be streamlining the scope of the game," Activision said in a statement. This decision was made after careful consideration of various factors and while we're proud of the accomplishment in bringing Call of Duty: Warzone to mobile in an authentic way, it unfortunately has not met our expectations with mobile-first players like it has with PC and console audiences.

The game's servers will remain online with cross-progression intact. Players can redeem any remaining COD points through the game's online store. The publisher cannibalized itself a bit here, and there is also a Call of Duty Mobile game. Activision is now offering special incentives to get Warzone players to try that game.

This mirrors EA's path with the now defunct Apex Legends Mobile offering, which shut down in May 2023. There was, wait for it, an initially successful launch followed by a shutdown a year later. The competition in this space is significant, including Activision's own game.

Let's be honest. The console version of Call of Duty Warzone isn't the strongest brand right now either. Rampant cheating and unpopular updates have pushed that game to the brink. There are plenty of rumors circulating that if the latest set of updates doesn't bring players back, this could be it for Warzone.
