There are a million games that task us with throwing parties or making friends. There are precious few games about people who have a problem doing that. A Week in the Life of Asocial Giraffe has a main character so anxious that his head will literally explode if he talks to anyone. Making matters even more complicated, he lives in Friendly City, proudly voted the friendliest city in the whole world!
In this point and click stealth adventure, you must help Giraffe get through his week while avoiding neighbors who need help, want to share their life story, or would just to like to make small talk. This game is being featured during Ludonarracon 2025, a celebration of narrative games on Steam.
Steam also has a demo for you to try out, featuring four of the tasks Giraffe must perform to get through his day-to-day life. Can you help him get through a busy subway, get a photo ID taken, get his mail, and purchase his favorite beverage, all without talking to anyone?
I really love the artistic style, which is inspired by 1950s cartoons and features frame-by-frame hand- drawn animation. This title combines point-and-click adventure with stealth for the kind of experience you don't see a whole lot in gaming.
I'm somebody who likes to talk a lot (shocking, I know) but my wife is more on the introverted side. I've got a little more in common with the residents of Friendly City than I care to admit. We don't always realize when we're being a little too much and making someone uncomfortable.
After all, we're taught from the kindergarten age to reach out, make friends, and make everyone feel welcome. We don't talk as much about people with different personality types. Video games can tell these stories in a unique and enjoyable way, and teach us a little something in the process.
