94/98 Zinedane Zidane Ultimate Team card may be this year's Lionel Messi debacle

Stop me if you have heard this one, but FC 25 Ultimate Team has a major glitch with one of its free rewards. We've reached the point of the year in which EA gives out "Hey, you haven't logged in for a while" enticements to pull you back in. The latest is a 90 overall Zinedane Zidane card, that can evolve to a 94 overall through challenges. But a glitch is allowing some players to evolve him twice, going from a 90 to a 98.

A 98 overall card is essentially an endgame player, and we're a long way from the likely September release of the next FC game. Only some players are getting this glitch, but there will still be way more 98 overall Zidane cards in circulation than EA planned. That's especially true since the number in play was supposed to be zero.

Veteran players will no doubt remember last year's confusion when EA accidentally gave out entirely too many Lionel Messi Team of The Year cards. This all impacts a marketplace that is already incredibly fragile.

The purpose for releasing the 90 Zidane card was to get lapsed players to log back in. Many have done so, but are now realizing why they had stopped playing in the first place. Players who log into Ultimate Team by Feb. 14 will receive the 90 Zidane card. Those who played FC 24 by Sept. 26, 2024 and FC 25 by Oct. 31. 2024 will receive an evolution upgradable through in-game challenges. As for the glitchy second upgrade, it appears completely random.
