Best Xbox One Games #4 – Batman: Arkham Knight
Developer: Rocksteady Studios
Synopsis: A specialized toxin is released into Gotham City, turning people as batty and aggressive as an unhinged Joker. Anyone who comes in contact with it becomes driven to attack anyone else in sight until they are mauled to death. Scarecrow is responsible, with a little help from a new villain called the Arkham Knight to do his bidding. Batman must save the city once more.
There are tons of missions to do in Arkham Knight outside of the main story, including taking down enemies like Two-Face, The Penguin, training a possible replacement for Batman should Wayne step back from the spotlight, plus collecting tons of hidden riddles across Gotham. 100% completion is necessary to uncover the hidden, real ending of the game.
Why it’s one of the 50 best Xbox One games: Arkham Knight marked one of the first times 8th-generation console hardware really began to fire on all cylinders. It’s a massive open-world action game that has visuals as strong as its performance (on consoles), all while telling an adapted story of an established canon that feels like an authentic recreation. The voice acting remains a point of praise, especially concerning Hollywood talent that includes the likes of Jonathan Banks as Commissioner Gordon, John Noble as Scarecrow and others I dare not mention now.
Arkham Knight also refused to play things safe by ending on a cliffhanger that truly carries multiple interpretations. To be able to finish off a series, one that brought countless hours of comboing henchmen by the dozens at a time, in a way that is genuinely thought-provoking is worthy of recognition.
