Best PS4 Games #5 – Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Developer: Naughty Dog

Synopsis: Concluding the epic series, Nathan has retired from the treasure hunting life and works for a salvage company. Suddenly one day, Nathan’s brother, Sam, drops in, despite being assumed dead for fifteen years. He’s tasked with finding a hidden treasure at the behest of an escaped drug lord, dragging Nathan back into the adventuring life head-first.

Nathan will travel the world again with Sam, bringing Sully along with him. Uncharted 4 has a bigger focus on traversal and discovery than the past games, offering many open-ended exploration opportunities than before. As such, you will use jeeps, cars, boats and all-terrain equipment to overcome all obstacles, while using the environmental foliage to hide from enemies.

Why it’s one of the 50 best PS4 games: Naughty Dog is unparalleled in creating explosive action games that play like movies. With the expanded hardware of the PS4, the infamously huge set pieces are even larger, feeding the player a thrill that will have them hanging on the edge of their seats. However, the beauty of these characters is their natural banter, witty observations and overall dialogue that feels organic, even if you might find a meta reference or set up one-liner the odd time or two.

What more can be said about the environmental design, other than, “It’s a Naughty Dog game.” Bravo to the engineers, artists and cinematic directors, who all come together to weave some of the most gorgeous scenery in all of video gaming. Whether it be the rocky cliffside among the Madagascar plains or amid the sprawling seaweed of the ocean floor, players will be wowed at the sights and sounds they encounter.

If this is the last time we see Nathan Drake in a video game, then mark Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End as a fitting farewell to one of the greatest video game series’ of all time.
