Best PS4 Games #18 – Transistor
Developer: Supergiant Games
Synopsis: Operating in the design style of an isometric 3D action-RPG title, Transistor follows famous singer, Red, and the Transistor sword she discovers plunged into the chest of a man outside a venue. Ripping it straight out, Red is then chased by a robotic force of enemies known as the Process, who are trying to destroy her and retrieve the mysterious sword she now has in her possession. There is more to this sword than its glowing greenness, as it captures the spirit and consciousness of the man it was separated from.
Why it’s one of the 50 best PS4 games: As an independent games development studio, it’s immeasurably difficult to follow up on the success that defines the populace’s knowledge of your existence. For their part, Transistor holds its own, especially as a tactical RPG that plays up the cyberpunk green-and-aqua mood to a T. As was the case with Child of Light, Supergiant Games goes hard in with their soundtrack here. The OST mixes genres to match the setting, jumping between Electric Rock, Trance and Nu Jazz. It oozes through the world the story embodies, truly benefiting a deserving tale.
