Best PS4 Games #28 – Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin
Developer: From Software
Synopsis: A chosen human becomes a Hollow after death, putting his life into a constant state of zombified rebirth. This Bearer of the Curse must seek the four Great Souls from the kingdom of Drangleic, seek the king in the capital and bring about changes to the cycle of darkness and the restorative light that follows. Great monstrosities await the player in the forms of monsters, creatures, gigantic bosses, dragons and even invading players. Worst yet is when bosses and invaders join forces to take you down.
Why it’s one of the 50 best PS4 games: Despite its existence first on the 7th generation of consoles, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin fundamentally changes the very nature of the game due to its narrative design differences, as well as enemy placement and containing the entirety of the post-launch DLC. It tells a radically opposing story, giving the players options that work well from a gameplay stance.
That comes on top of a core gameplay service that From Software has only improved upon with age, adding a variety of functions, items, weapons and armor sets to the core experience. Character design improvements, especially concerning the likes of invading NPCs and story interactions with other players, took major leaps forward.
