Best PS4 Games #34 – Rime

Developer: Tequila Works

Synopsis: Washing up on the shores of a mystical land, a young boy finds himself in a land of mystery and magic. Navigating through the environmental puzzles surrounding him, as well as following the guidance of a magical fox, he must unlock the secrets of the island, his purpose and the means of returning to where he came.

Why it’s one of the 50 best PS4 games: Once geared exclusively for the PS4, Rime doesn’t necessitate photorealism in its visual design. Instead, it opts for surrealism filled with bright, vibrant colors and the creeping orchestral score to boast about an art style that’s quite stunning. It marries the innocent, inquisitive world design of The Last Guardian with the art design of Ori and the Blind Forest.

As much as the puzzle platforming dictates the gameplay, the sense of discovery fuels both the game design and the narrative tools available to Tequila Works. In a bold movie, Rime shows more than it tells, offering up the player a sublime adventure experience.
