Best Nintendo 3DS Games – #43 Fantasy Life

Developer: Level-5, Brownie Brown, h.a.n.d.

Release Date: October 24th, 2014

Synopsis: In the world of Reveria, anyone can be anything they want to be, whether that’s Cook, or Hunter, or Paladin, or Alchemist, or any of the game’s other twelve “Life” classes. Some involve gathering; others crafting; still others fighting monsters and exploring the world. The player can freely swap between any of these lives as they explore Reveria, aided by a Butterfly guide who may be more than she seems. There’s a storyline that will take you to all of Reveria’s major cities and dungeons, but you can pursue its end at your leisure while you level up one, two, or all twelve jobs to Legend rank, or Creator if you pick up the Origin Island DLC.

Why It’s One Of The Best Nintendo Games: Fantasy Life packs everything lovable about a typical fantasy world into one cute bundle that boasts hours of gameplay spiking up into the hundreds for those who want maximum completion. The storyline itself isn’t the most compelling in the world, but it’s engaging enough to keep you pursuing the next objective as you chop rare trees, seek out elusive monsters, and hone your button-rhythm skills to craft the finest goods.

Reveria is full of quirky characters to meet and a wide array of quests, many of which are Life-exclusive. If you ever feel you’ve explored all Fantasy Life has to offer, try switching Lives to change the game completely. Fantasy Life can get boring after awhile due to the similarity of some of the Lives, but generally, that point doesn’t hit until long after the 40-hour mark when you’ve canvassed the world and maxed out several Lives.
