Best Nintendo 3DS Games – #19 Pushmo

Developer: Intelligent Systems

Release Date: December 8, 2011

Synopsis: Mallo, a round creature, visits Pushmo Park, where he discovers that all the children of the park have gone missing. In order to track them down, he must climb up large, block, playground structures by pushing in and pulling out block pieces up to three “spaces” forward to create climbable staircases. These puzzles grow increasingly complex depending on the size and shape of the blocks.

Why it’s one of the best Nintendo 3DS games: Such a simple concept, for such a brilliant game. Pushmo is a kind of puzzling game we haven’t seen before, well-suited to the 3D capabilities of the 3DS that let its blocks pop out even more than they do on a flat screen. But even without the visuals, the puzzles of Pushmo are almost universally interesting and challenging. And with handy rewind features and the ability to reset or skip puzzles as needed, there’s little punishment to annoy you as you climb your way through Pushmo Park. Just relax and enjoy the adorable genius of Pushmo.
