Best Nintendo 3DS Games – #34 Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy

Developer: Level-5

Release Date: February 28, 2014

Synopsis: Professor layton is back in action for the final segment of his prequel trilogy and the last Layton game with Professor Layton himself at the helm. Just like before, the focus is on solving puzzles to connect and progress visual novel aspects of the story. Layton is confronted with a strange organization looking to use the power of the Azran Legacies for their own gain.

Why It’s One Of The Best Nintendo Games: If you like Layton games, you like Layton games, and you definitely like Azran Legacy. As the final Professor Layton game to feature him, it’s also the most polished and features the most puzzles. Level-5 perfected their formula by the time Azran Legacy dropped, so there was no need to do anything more than write a great narrative (which they did, one that sets up Luke as Layton’s assistant by the end) and include more exciting and varied puzzles. Though you’ll need to play the predecessors to understand the setup, Azran Legacy is probably the definitive Professor Layton game.
